Submissions

For Page & Screen Magazine accepts all submissions through email ONLY. If you would like to submit, please send a single email to forpageandscreen (at) gmail (dot) com with your last name and category of submission in the subject line.

For ALL categories of submission, please include your full name and a brief third-person biographical statement in the body of your email. Please submit to only one category per submission period unless you have a script that pairs with a film/audio recording.

We have TWO submission periods:

  1. Open submissions run from January 1st through April 30th. During this time, you may submit pieces on any subject you like.
  2. Themed submissions run from July 1st through October 31st. The theme for this submission period will be announced approximately a month before submissions open.

Any submissions received outside of these periods will be deleted without review.

Our editorial team consists of very talented and very busy volunteers, so please allow for at least two months after the end of the submission period for a response.

Simultaneous submissions are encouraged, but please let us know right away if your work is accepted elsewhere. We generally do not accept previously published work. However, we occasionally make exceptions for pieces accepted elsewhere while still under our consideration. Additionally, please see the full guidelines for exceptions regarding films, plays, and audio submissions.

We do NOT and never will accept submissions created in whole or in part using AI.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer payment for accepted pieces at this time but we still would be honored to help share your work with the world.

Submissions are currently CLOSED!

If you would like to submit work for a future issue, please read our full guidelines below!

Category Guidelines:

Fiction & Non-fiction Prose:

  • We accept all genres of fiction and (as of Issue 5) non-fiction up to 5,000 words in length. You may submit multiple short or flash fiction pieces up to this word count.
  • Please attach your submission as a single document (.doc or .docx) with Times New Roman or other basic font and formatting.
  • We put no restrictions on content but if your work has discriminatory (racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, etc) themes or messages it will not be published.

Scripts & Screenplays:

  • We accept all genres of fiction short scripts up to 30 pages.
  • As of Issue 5 we are accepting documentary treatments! However, please keep in mind that here at For Page & Screen we prioritize a great narrative. As such, we prefer documentary treatments that follow a clear emotional or narrative arc rather than purely educational issue pieces.
  • Submissions should be in industry standard format (12pt Courier font, single spaced, appropriate margins). We recommend using free software options such as Celtx if you are unfamiliar with the formatting standard.
  • If you want to make our job easier, check out our downloadable “Script Template” and “Screenplay Template” Word documents that have all you need to know about how we format the scripts and screenplays we publish! Please note: these templates are specifically formatted for publication in For Page & Screen Magazine. While they are based off of industry standard practices, due to the page size and altered margins they are NOT in industry standard format.
  • Scripts should be attached as a single document (PDF, .doc, or .docx file type).
  • We put no restrictions on content but if your work has discriminatory (racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, etc) themes or messages it will not be published.

Short Films:

  • We accept fiction short films of any genre up to 30 minutes in length. We won’t refuse a film if it’s a few seconds over, but please don’t take advantage.
  • As of Issue 5 we are accepting short documentaries! However, please keep in mind that here at For Page & Screen we prioritize a great narrative. As such, we prefer documentaries that follow a clear emotional or narrative arc rather than purely educational issue pieces.
  • All films must be in English or have English subtitles. In a perfect world, all films would include subtitles, but we don’t require them. (Please note: multilingual stories are welcome as long as the overall narrative can be followed by English-speaking viewers)
  • To avoid issues with file size, we ask that you upload your film to YouTube with privacy set to “Unlisted.” Please include the link to this video in your submission email.
  • Films must not be published publicly on other online platforms prior to submitting. However, we do not require any other premier status.
  • If you have a poster or any promotional images you would like featured, please include them as attachments on your email.
  • Please note: If your film is chosen it may negate premier status eligibility when submitting to film festivals.
  • We put no restrictions on content but if your work has discriminatory (racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, etc) themes or messages it will not be published.

Radio Plays/Audio Files:

  • We accept fiction radio plays or short audio stories of up to 30 minutes in length.
  • All audio files must be primarily in English (multilingual stories are welcome as long as the overall narrative can be followed by English-speaking listeners). We would appreciate a written transcription (included as a Word document) but this is not required.
  • Please send the file as an email or Google Drive attachment (if necessary to accommodate file size) in .mp3 or .wav format. Additionally, include your brief 3rd person biographical statement and any additional credits (for example, actor/crew names) in the body of your email.
  • Audio files must not be published publicly on other online platforms prior to submitting. However, we do not require any other premier status.
  • We put no restrictions on content but if your work has discriminatory (racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, etc) themes or messages it will not be published.

If you have any questions about our submission guidelines or about your submission, please feel free to email us and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible!
